Product Assurance -
Reliability & Maintainability

Principal Tools and Skills:

  • Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Level I & II Certifications
  • Electronics Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering

With the increased emphasis throughout military acquisition programs on reducing costs and increasing operational readiness, there is tremendous pressure on industry to devise better, more stable, and less expensive hardware and software. To this end, ASFT engineers have been working with both military and large defense contractors to help make these goals a reality. Through maintainability engineering analyses, ASFT performs Failure Modes and Effects Analyses, Level of Repair Analyses, reviews Maintainability Design Criteria for effective system supportability, and determines the suitability of testing as a maintainability factor.

Today, ASFT performs maintenance engineering in support of submarine electronic systems. ASFT engineers collaborate with customer engineers to influence system design, leveraging interchangeability among multiple manufacturers in order to maximize maintainability through “plug and play” configurations, mitigate risks of obsolete parts, and meet maintainability design constraints imposed by the customers. ASFT engineers have developed maintenance plans and have cataloged hundreds of maintenance procedures for both preventive and corrective maintenance. ASFT has performed validation and verification of these procedures in both simulated laboratory and real world environments. In addition, ASFT engineers conduct predictive maintenance studies to help customers develop new designs for higher system performance and reliability.

ASFT continues working with its customers to develop innovative software maintenance procedures that will be integrated into an overall preventive/predictive maintenance program. These types of procedures have never incorporated software maintenance in the past.

Principal Customers:

  • Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA)
  • Space & Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR)
