“The Department of Defense safety goal is zero preventable mishaps.” As stated by the SECDEF. DoD regulations stipulate that a system safety approach be employed to manage the risk of mishaps associated with DoD operations. A key objective of the DoD system safety approach is to include mishap risk management consistent with mission requirements, in technology development by design for DoD systems, subsystems, equipment, facilities, and their interfaces and operation.

ASFT engineers can perform safety analyses and identify safety requirements in order to meet this goal of zero preventable mishaps. Additionally, ASFT personnel have past experience managing safety programs at the unit level with success.
